Welcome to the Oban Music Society web site

We have a full programme of concerts which you will find on our Concerts page

The accounts for the Society for the year ending 31 March 2022 may be seen here

As a society we are constituted to ‘promote and encourage the study, practice and knowledge of music in Oban and the surrounding district, and to promote educational, artistic and cultural activities connected with music’. We are a voluntary organisation dedicated to bringing top quality classical music and other genre and talented musicians to Oban.  Most of our concerts are held on Sunday afternoons between October and March

in St John’s Cathedral, George Street, Oban.

No charge is made for children and young people attending our concerts. You will find details of our season’s concerts together with details of other upcoming musical events at St John’s Cathedral on the Concerts page. We are indebted to Enterprise Music Scotland for the grant they provide, greatly assisting our ability to provide these concerts, and to the Argyll and Bute Concert Tours organisation that coordinates the concerts across Argyll enabling us to get reduced fees from internationally-acclaimed artists.

We also facilitate concerts and musical events being promoted by local as well as visiting musicians. In this regard each year we have a number of international performers as well as local and national artists. Being a small town we are the only organization that can provide a concert-quality piano in Oban. We therefore make it available to local piano teachers and their students for concerts, festivals and competitions, as well as making it available for other events such as:

  • The Lorne Live Music Festival
  • Visiting choirs

Please let us know if you have any specific suggestions regarding ways to improve our programme or if you would like to become more involved with our Society. To keep abreast of upcoming concerts and events make sure you are on our mailing list.
